FEATURED
Rob Liu-Trujillo was born and raised in Oakland. He is an author and illustrator whose work explores identity, history, family, mixed heritage, literacy, and agency. His recent books include Fresh Juice / Jugo Fresco, which he wrote and illustrated, Art of Rob, a 130-page collection of sketches and drawings, and We Are Yoga / Somos Yoga, written by Jill Guerra and illustrated by Rob.
Roxanne Chester is a children’s book author, attorney, and painter based in California. Her years in community advocacy taught her that behind every issue is a person’s story, and she started writing to share those stories with young readers. Her picture book, This Is My Bag: A Story of the Unhoused, illustrated by Abraham Matias, is, in her words, a "gentle conversation starter about people experiencing homelessness" for young readers. She is a 2026 SCBWI Work-in-Progress Award winner and is represented by Leah Pierre of Ladderbird Literary Agency.
R.J. Owens has always loved the way words roll around in his head and on his tongue. That love led him to work as a community storyteller with the Oakland Tribune, a retail advertising copywriter, and a legal writer. His books include Walk the Walk, inspired by the Civil Rights Movement and the courage of children in trying times, as well as Cowgirl Dreaming, A Song So Black, So Proud!, and the forthcoming Sunshine’s Coming Through. A Chicago native, R.J. has long called Oakland home.
