The Bookout Block Party is almost here. Saturday, September 12, 10:30 am to 2:00 pm, at Marcus Books (3900 Martin Luther King Jr Way) and Longfellow Fields.

We want you to meet everyone before you even get there. Give them a follow, then see them in person on Saturday!

On the mic and in the mix

DJ Red Corvette (@djredcorvette). Expect a feel-good warm-up set, a freeze dance you will not be able to sit out.

KWC Complex Jazz Trio. Live jazz on the block, trading sets with the DJ all day.

Oakland Public Conservatory of Music (@oaklandpublicconservatory). Keeping Oakland's Black music traditions alive through education, and leading a hands-on music workshop for the kids.

On the storytime rug

Mayor Barbara Lee (@mayorbarbaralee). After decades of representing Oakland, our Mayor knows a good story when she sees one. She's kicking off the read-along on the storytime rug.

Kaylani Juanita (@kaylanijuanita). The Bay Area illustrator behind some of the most beautiful picture books on our shelves, reading with us on the rug.

Njeri Kamau-Devers (@littlesheep_chinese). Founder of Little Sheep Chinese Learning Center, bringing bilingual stories to storytime.

Thomishia "Mishi" Booker, LCSW, EdDCP (@heycarterbooks). Author of the Hey Carter! book series, celebrating Black boy joy one story at a time.

Derick Davies (@thederickdavies). Oakland visual artist bringing prints you can take home.

Egg Pals (@eggpals). New York-style egg-and-cheese sandwiches from the beloved pop-up that's about to put down permanent roots in Temescal.

Studio Red Hifi (@studioredhifi). Founded by DJ Red Corvette, bringing good listening and matcha to the block.

Melanin Meanings (@melaninmeanings). Bay Area, Black woman-owned stationery brand whose pencil sets celebrate Black literature and culture.

Oakland Promise (@oaklandpromise). Cradle-to-career scholarships and programs for Oakland families.

Reading Partners Bay Area (@rpbayarea). One-on-one reading tutoring for Bay Area students.
